Artist Statement

As a first generation immigrant, Elke Zimmermann identifies with both geographical and cultural boundaries. Ms. Zimmermann has been influenced by her global experiences, having lived in four different countries on three different continents and being fluent in four languages.

Her minimalist abstracts use watercolor washes, pastel and watercolor pencil techniques to play with distinct and blurred boundaries, symbolic of her multicultural background. All of her artwork is created with sustainable materials.
